LASERLINKS 10-28-11

Happy Halloween, everybody! If you don’t already know, LaserLinks is a collection of news bits, casting announcements, trailers, and other geekery that I didn’t get a chance to write about during the week. And away we go….

The Avengers

Director/Writer Joss Whedon wrote and directed an entire movie in secret while on a break from shooting on the massive superhero team-up movie. It’s an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, and it features a ton of familiar nerd names like Amy Acker from Angel/Dollhouse, Sean Maher from Firefly, and self-proclaimed King of the Geeks, Nathan Fillion. There is no word on a distribution deal or release date as of yet. Source: Reuters.

Hunger Games

Here’s a new gallery of stills and posters from this upcoming adaptation of the hugely popular YA book series.

The Dark Knight Rises

Here’s a report on the upcoming New York City shooting.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Here’s a video clip of the directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, discussing how they didn’t really do much research on the comic book version of the film’s villain, Blackout.

Beetlejuice 2

It looks like a sequel to the Tim Burton classic is finally moving forward, and it will be a true continuation of the story with Michael Keaton returning as the titular “ghost with the most.”

Independence Day 2 & 3

Yep, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich are close to completing not one, but two screenplays that will continue the story of the monument-destroying aliens from the original ID4. They also really hope to get Will Smith to return and say, “Welcome back to Earff!”

Superman: The Man of Steel

Michael Shannon dishes some info on the fight scenes between Zod and Superman.

FIVE EPIC NEW ‘HARRY POTTER & THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II’ POSTERS

FIRST PICS OF CAPTAIN AMERICA IN HIS USO COSTUME

At some point in the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger, the armed forces decide to use Cap as morale-building propaganda tool for the troops, so they suit him up in a costume and send him out to sing and dance in a USO show. The costume they deck him out in is a cheesey version of his classic costume from the comic books, which you can see in these new photos. The film is set for release on July 22.

‘CAPTAIN AMERICA’ POSTER FOR CAST & CREW IS NAZI-PUNCHIN’ GOODNESS

Now this is just too awesome for words. The cast & crew of Captain America were all given this exclusive, limited-edition poster by artist Paola Rivera, that features Chris Evans in his Cap gear punching the mustache off of Hitler’s mug in an homage to Cap’s first comic book appearance in Captain America Comics #1. Sadly, this badass piece of art won’t be available to the public for purchase, but at least we have the Internet image to enjoy. Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22, which still feels like an eternity away…*sigh*.

3 NEW CHARACTER POSTERS FOR ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA’

I have not been bashful about my unbridled, slobbering passion when it comes to Captain America: The First Avenger. My expectations for this Marvel adaptation are sky-high, and these three new character posters for the film have only reinforced that enthusiasm. The images are the best looks we’ve had so far of Captain America, The Red Skull, and Sharon Carter. I would love to see character posters for Bucky and Dum Dum Dugan as well, but I’m sure they’ll be forthcoming. Click on the thumbnails for glorious hi-res versions! Captain America is in theaters on July 22 (Fuck you, Michael Bay, for stealing the July 4 release date for your shitty Transformers sequel!).
