LASERLINKS 10-28-11

Happy Halloween, everybody! If you don’t already know, LaserLinks is a collection of news bits, casting announcements, trailers, and other geekery that I didn’t get a chance to write about during the week. And away we go….

The Avengers

Director/Writer Joss Whedon wrote and directed an entire movie in secret while on a break from shooting on the massive superhero team-up movie. It’s an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, and it features a ton of familiar nerd names like Amy Acker from Angel/Dollhouse, Sean Maher from Firefly, and self-proclaimed King of the Geeks, Nathan Fillion. There is no word on a distribution deal or release date as of yet. Source: Reuters.

Hunger Games

Here’s a new gallery of stills and posters from this upcoming adaptation of the hugely popular YA book series.

The Dark Knight Rises

Here’s a report on the upcoming New York City shooting.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Here’s a video clip of the directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, discussing how they didn’t really do much research on the comic book version of the film’s villain, Blackout.

Beetlejuice 2

It looks like a sequel to the Tim Burton classic is finally moving forward, and it will be a true continuation of the story with Michael Keaton returning as the titular “ghost with the most.”

Independence Day 2 & 3

Yep, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich are close to completing not one, but two screenplays that will continue the story of the monument-destroying aliens from the original ID4. They also really hope to get Will Smith to return and say, “Welcome back to Earff!”

Superman: The Man of Steel

Michael Shannon dishes some info on the fight scenes between Zod and Superman.

LIVE-ACTION ‘VOLTRON’ SHORT IS DEPRESSING AS HELL

Timothy Omundson from Psych stars as an aging Lance, captain of the Red Lion in this extremely grim take on what a live-action Voltron movie could look like. It’s so dark that it threatens to delve into hokiness several times, but overall it’s very well done. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to curl up in a fetal position and sob while watching Voltron cartoons on Netflix.

LASERLINKS 10-21-11

Happy Rapture Day: Take Two! LaserLinks is where I compile a bunch of headlines, trailers, news bits, casting announcements, videos, and other fun geeky stuff from the past week into one convenient blog post.

The Avengers

I had to leave NYCC on Friday night, so I missed out on attending The Avengers panel. Luckily, this is the Internets and someone had a camera in the auditorium. Here’s the video of the entire panel!

BATMAN + SPACE GHOST = AWESOME

Batman: The Brave & The Bold is such a cool cartoon because it’s not beholden to the grim, Gotham-based crime stories of the previous Batman animated series’.  It’s allowed to be as campy and as wacky as it wants to be, which is great because the possibilites for fun team-ups and insane sci-fi adventures are endless. Case in point,  last week’s show ratcheted up the coolness factor tenfold by teaming Batman up with legendary Hannah-Barbera character Space Ghost in a loving tribute to the late 60’s Hannah-Barbera space cartoons. This is just pure joy:

Well, you knew this was inevitable…
