I’m a little late to the game on this, but MTV aired this exclusive new trailer for JJ Abrams Super 8 (which opens this Friday), during the
Twilight Awards Movie Awards last Sunday night. I could not be more pumped to see some soft-lit, lens flarey, vintage 70’s-looking Spielbergian goodness this weekend!
Wow, now here’s an example of a movie that the mainstream audience will likely ignore, but may end up being one of the best films of the Summer. This latest Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer features some truly astonishing CGI apes that are effective and creepy as all hell. That one brief flash where a chimp is seen lurking above a sleeping couple in the dark? Pure nightmare fuel. Rise is due in theaters on August 5th.
Love him or hate him, Kevin Smith is a huge (literally and metaphorically) geek icon, and one of the pioneers of 90’s “slacker cinema”. Now he’s throwing his hat into the horror ring with the mysterious Red State, a movie he’s been developing for several years that centers around an ultra-conservative, bible-thumping midwestern Preacher. This teaser doesn’t shed much light on the plot of the flick, and it looks a tad sloppy and amateurish, but it seems like an interesting departure from the usual dick and fart jokes Smith has delivered for almost 20 years. Red State debuts at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23. Credit: /Film.
Christ on a bike, Zack Snyder keeps making sweet, sweet love to my eyeballs with this latest, pants-exploding glimpse into his upcoming
juvenile fetish badass chick film, Sucker Punch. This two and a half-minute featurette has Snyder and some of the folks involved with the production talking a bit about the plot of the movie, but I was too busy experiencing cinematic blue balls from staring slack-jawed at all the new amazingly hot and badass footage of Emily Browning, Jena Malone, and Vanessa Hudgens shooting and stabbing the hell out of dragons and 30-foot tall robot samurai. This film reached straight into my 14-year old brain and transplanted it directly to the movie screen. I cannot wait ’til March 25, 2011 to achieve full release…
I’ve never been a huge fan of this franchise (The third film is an absolute mess), but this fourth installment looks pretty entertaining, mostly because it seems like it has a more coherent storyline and they scaled the CGI shenanigans back quite a bit. Plus, Ian McShane is a total badass here as Blackbeard. Look for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in theaters on May 20th, 2011.
