IS ‘GHOSTBUSTERS 3’ ABOUT TO BE ANNOUNCED? (UPDATED)

UPDATE: 4:25 PM EST, 09/13/11 – It’s just an announcement that the original Ghostbusters will be released in theaters again in October. No Ghostbusters III confirmation yet.

About an hour ago, someone in charge of the official Ghostbusters Facebook fan page posted some new status updates:

Back in the office! Time to dust off our type writers, restock our facsimile machines, and rewind our answering machines. Yuck! Venkman left his pastrami in the fridge. Where’s Slimer when you need him?

And then a half hour later:

Interesting, a voice recording from the Mayor! He wants us to report to City Hall. Wonder what this could be about?

Fans immediately interpreted these cryptic updates as signs of an impending announcement that the long-rumored Ghostbusters 3 was finally going into production. If this turns out to be true, that means either Aykroyd and company finally convinced Bill Murray to reluctantly sign on, or they are making good on their threat to move forward without him. Personally, I hope it’s the former, but it’s going to take a Herculean effort from everyone involved in this project (not to mention a ton of magic and luck) to make this transition to newer, younger Ghostbusters a success. Sadly, odds are we are going to have another Crystal Skull, Phantom Menace, or *gulp* Blues Brothers 2000 on our hands *shudder*.

About Jeff Carter

Jeff began his path towards Geek destiny at the age of four, at a drive-in screening of Star Wars. Since then, he's had a love affair with all things nerdy. In the mid to late 90's, Jeff was a staff writer for EchoStation.Com, interviewing Star Wars heavyweights like Timothy Zahn and Drew Struzan. He then went on to review films and write editorial pieces for several blogs in the mid 2000's, wrote and co-created a webcomic strip that ran from 2007-2010, and is currently co-founder of Dead Henchmen Productions, an independent film company based in New England.
