YEP, THEY ARE STILL GOING TO MAKE ‘THE WOLVERINE’

It’s been a while since we checked in on the production of The Wolverine, the sequel to the prequel about everyone’s favorite clawed Canuck that was supposed to be directed by the genius known as Darren Aronofsky. Although one would think that after Aronofsky bowed out, wiser heads would prevail and realize that it would be ill-advised to proceed on yet another Wolverine movie under a hack director, Hugh Jackman isn’t going to let his infamous 6,000 calorie-per-day diet go to waste, so filming is gearing up for November in Vancouver under the helm of James Mangold.

Hugh Jackman and the cast of Wolverine 2 will be heading to Vancouver in November to round up a star-studded year of Hollywood blockbusters filmed here in B.C.

Filming of the action flick is set to take place Nov. 11 to March 1, 2012 at Canadian Motion Picture Park in Burnaby, where scenes from Twilight, Supernatural and Fantastic Four were filmed.

While Mangold isn’t exactly a hack (he’s directed 3:10 to Yuma, Cop Land, and a really great little flick called Heavy), he isn’t a true auteur like Aronofsky, who really would have lent a Wolverine movie a visceral pulse. The screenplay – which adapts Frank Miller’s landmark Wolverine series about Logan’s adventures in Japan – is said to be very strong, so there’s a slight chance the material may be able to rise above by-the-numbers directing from the guy responsible for unleashing Knight & Day on the world, but I’m not holding my breath. There is no release date for The Wolverine as of yet.

About Jeff Carter

Jeff began his path towards Geek destiny at the age of four, at a drive-in screening of Star Wars. Since then, he's had a love affair with all things nerdy. In the mid to late 90's, Jeff was a staff writer for EchoStation.Com, interviewing Star Wars heavyweights like Timothy Zahn and Drew Struzan. He then went on to review films and write editorial pieces for several blogs in the mid 2000's, wrote and co-created a webcomic strip that ran from 2007-2010, and is currently co-founder of Dead Henchmen Productions, an independent film company based in New England.
