MARION COTILLARD CAST IN ‘THE DARK KNIGHT RISES’?
Many big-time Hollywood Blockbuster directors like to cast the same actors in their films: Scorcese likes Robert DeNiro, Spielberg and Lucas work with Harrison Ford a lot, and Tim Burton is completely in love with Johnny Depp. Now Christopher Nolan is taking this trend to the next level by embarking on what appears to be a crusade to get every actor in Inception into the final Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.
So far Michael Caine (Alfred), Tom Hardy (Bane), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (possibly Alberto Falcone, son of Tom Wilkinson’s Carmine Falcone from Batman Begins.) are all signed on, and recently French newspaper Le Figaro reported that Marion Cotillard is close to a role in the film. That pretty much leaves Ellen Page and Leonardo DiCaprio as the only two Inception principals that won’t be appearing in a Nolan Batman film. (Cillian Murphy and Ken Watanabe appeared in the first two Batman movies). Rises doesn’t gear up until May, however, so there’s still plenty of time to get Leo to play some bad-ass villain and Ellen Page to appear as, ummm, I don’t know…a hipster version of Harley Quinn?
Now, the first question that came to my mind when I read this news was, if you’re going to cast Marion Cotillard in a Batman movie, why not have her play Selina Kyle/Catwoman instead of Anne Hathaway? She seemingly has all the qualities inherent to the character – a slinky feline appearance, gobs of sex appeal, and a sensual voice that seems to purr with every syllable. Anne Hathaway is certainly no slouch in the hotness department, but when you cast a woman who looks like she was born to play the role, it’s a real head-scratcher. Actually, the role she is rumored to play is Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Liam Neeson’s Ra’s Al Ghul from Batman Begins, which does suit her quite nicely, as it calls for someone very exotic.
