Dear God, I loves me some Muppets. Kermit, Fozzy, Gonzo, and the gang were an important and beloved part of my childhood, and I’ve carried that love and appreciation into my adulthood. The new Muppet movie is shaping up to be awesome, and Lord knows Muppet fans deserve a return to glory after 20 plus years of mediocre outings like Muppet Treasure Island or Muppet Christmas Carol. Here’s a synopsis of the flick and a few of the recent casting announcements and details about ‘The Muppets’ that should make Jim Henson fans ecstatic:

  • “Jason Segel will play the lead role, a human named Gary, whose best friend is Walter, a new iPhone-wielding Muppet rumored to be voiced by Paul Rudd. The character has been described as “a sweet, slightly naive twenty-something Everypuppet who, in the movie, is the best friend and roommate of Segel’s character, Gary. Both Gary and Walter are die-hard Muppet fans.” Walter has never met other puppets and idealizes Kermit and the Muppets because they’re the only beings he’s seen that are like him. Together they go on a journey with Gary’s girlfriend Mary to defeat the evil Tex Richman, a man who doesn’t find the Muppets funny and thinks he can smell oil beneath their studio.”
  • There are confirmed roles/cameos for Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Jack Black (yes!), Rashida Jones, Danny Trejo, Ed Helms, John Krasinski, and rumored cameos by Zach Galifianakis, Sean Penn and Lady freakin’ Gaga!
  • The film will in the tone and style of the first three classic Muppet movies. Huzzah!
